The Ontario Line is a 15.6-kilometer metro line under construction in the heart of the city of Toronto, designed to make it faster and easier to travel within Toronto and beyond.

TSO awarded its first Overhead Catenary project in Canada on Toronto’s new Ontario Line subway

TSO, a subsidiary of NGE Group and leader of catenary systems in France, has been awarded by Hitachi Rail, the design, supply and build of the Overhead Catenary System of the new Ontario Line subway. The works will be carried out by its Canadian subsidiary, TSO Can Inc., over a period of 8 years throughout the 15.6 km of the Ontario Line.

The project's scope includes the design, supply, and construction along with two years of maintenance of the Overhead Line Equipment of the Ontario Line. It includes a 32 km 1.5kV Overhead Catenary System in open routes and in the maintenance depot. In the double-bored tunnel, a total of 17 km of 1.5kV Rigid Overhead Catenary will also be installed.

Integrating a 1.5kV Catenary System into a new line in Canada presents various challenges for the design and build teams. The adaptation of the systems to local conditions and requirements will be led by our expert approach in OLE Systems. TSO International's Managing Director, Gilles Philibert, expressed his satisfaction with the company's recent collaboration: “We are very pleased to have been entrusted by Hitachi Rail to work with them on this major sustainable mobility project. This contract demonstrates the growing trust our partners put in our consolidated model and testifies our commitment to bringing best-in-class catenary technologies to major mobility projects on an international level. This contract is in line with our strategy to develop our different rail activities and services, which already represents 50% of our Group’s international activities.”
