4 Moscow central diameters will be connected due to the transport frame development

The Moscow Central Diameters (MCD) is a new major passenger transport project. It is one of the main projects of the new Moscow transport framework. With the launch of the MCD-3 and MCD-4 in Moscow, there will be 12 hubs where passengers will be able to make interchanges between the diameters.

4 Moscow central diameters will be connected due to the transport frame development

«Diameters today are not interconnected but in the following years we will solve this problem. We continue to construct a transport framework, the large-scale work of the railway infrastructure modernization in the capital is in the process. They will allow to launch two more diameters, to connect all four diameters in a new single urban railway network. Thanks to the new convenient and free interchanges passengers will become more mobile and will be able to build new routes that are not available for now», – noted Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.

The Moscow Central Diameters connect remote areas of Moscow and settlements of the nearest Moscow suburbs. Diameters pass through the city center, creating through routes. Passengers don’t have to make multiple interchanges from one mode of transport to another in order to reach the center or the diameter destination. If the passenger needs to reach the destination, the MCD has transport hubs where he can make an interchange to the needed transport. With the launch of the MCD-3 and MCD-4, 12 hubs will be created to allow passengers to make interchanges to the first 4 diameters. By means of the new interchanges, residents and guests of the capital will be able to build flexible routes according to their needs, therefore travel time will be reduced that makes travel more comfortable and faster.

With the MCD launch, payment for the trips has become easier. Passengers used to buy a separate ticket, but now there is a single payment system for all modes of public transport – the «Troika» card. Interchanges between the metro, the Moscow Central Circle and the MCD are free of charge for 90 minutes. Payment is made by bank cards (Visa, Master Card, MIR, Union Pay) or devices equipped with NFC (Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay, Mir Pay and others).

The stations open every month. Speaking of the railway transport development rate, Moscow occupies one of the leading positions in the world. After the launch of first two diameters passengers became more likely to choose the MCD.

The MCD is an above-ground metro which is considered an analogue of Crossrail in London and RER in Paris. It allows passengers to travel from the suburbs to the city center and back. Passengers can switch to the metro, the Moscow Central Circle (MCC) and surface transport. MCD consists of 60 stations with 21 interchanges. The launch of the future MCD 3 is planned in 2023. The new Diameter will include 43 stations and its length will be 82 km. The MCD 4 is scheduled to be launched in 2023. There will be 18 transit stations with 35 options for interchanges to the metro, the Moscow Central Circle and other diameters. With the MCD 4, passengers will be able to reach 7 Moscow terminals without interchanges. The MCD 5 launch is planned on the 2025.
