Schindler to provide vertical transportation for the Grand Paris Express

Schindler announces it has been selected to deliver and install 134 elevators for 16 new stations and 21 ancillary facilities of the Grand Paris Express, the largest transport project in Europe that will double the size of the Paris metro network. Once in operation, Schindler elevators will help transport up to 2 million passengers a day.

Schindler continues to set the pace in major public transport projects, now also providing elevators for the Grand Paris Express (GPE), a group of new rapid transit lines being built in the Île-de-France region of France. The entire GPE project comprises four additional lines and the extension of the existing line 14, adding 200 kilometers of new track and 68 new stations that will serve a projected 2 million passengers a day.

The elevators will move passengers to and from the platforms, thereby becoming an integral part of 16 new stations and 21 ancillary facilities. Schindler will provide a total of 134 elevators of its Schindler 5500 type for Line 16 and the south section of Line 15, equipped with customized components. Installations will include anti-vandalism cabins, able to withstand heavy use and abuse.

Schindler is one of France’s leading providers of elevators, escalators, and moving walkway installations thanks to its innovative products and excellence in service. The Grand Paris Express project is the latest addition to a list of French public transportation projects to which Schindler contributes, including the installation of over 300 elevators for the French National Railways (SNCF), as well as long term maintenance agreements with the SNCF and with the Paris transportation operator (RATP).

"Our mission is always to make cities better and more sustainable places to live in,” said Thomas Oetterli, CEO of Schindler. “We're very proud that Schindler can contribute to such a large-scale strategic public transport project that will not just improve, but actually remodel the way Parisians travel around their great city."
