Alstom’s Citadis light rail vehicles begin service on Toronto's Finch West LRT

Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, together with Metrolinx, has officially welcomed the commissioning of 18 Citadis light-rail vehicles (LRVs) for Toronto’s new Finch West Light Rapid Transit (LRT) line. This milestone marks a significant advancement in delivering efficient, sustainable transit to Toronto’s rapidly expanding communities, underscoring Alstom’s continued commitment to innovation and local expertise in Canada.

The Citadis LRVs will operate along a completely new 10.3-kilometre corridor built on a dedicated right of way, fully separated from road traffic. The line features 16 stops and 2 stations—Finch West Station in the east and Humber College Station in the west. A pedestrian connection links the line directly to the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) Line 1 subway at Finch West Station. Designed to improve travel times and enhance service reliability, the Finch West LRT forms part of Ontario’s multibillion-dollar investment in modern, connected public transit for future generations.

State-of-the-Art Vehicles Built in Ontario
Constructed at Alstom’s Brampton manufacturing facility and tested at its Kingston site, each 48-metre Citadis vehicle features a spacious interior and can comfortably accommodate up to 300 passengers. The LRVs are fully accessible, offering barrier-free travel for passengers using strollers, mobility aids, and other accessibility needs.

Purpose-built for Canadian weather, the 100% low-floor Citadis vehicles are equipped to perform in temperatures as low as –38°C. They integrate winter-ready features, including reinforced insulation, high-capacity HVAC systems, and specialized snow and ice management solutions to ensure reliable service and passenger comfort year-round.
