ÖBB traffic report: Another train driver strike in Germany with an impact on train traffic
A nationwide strike has been called by the German Locomotive Drivers' Union (GDL) in Germany once again. The 35-hour work stoppage is planned from Thursday, March 7, 2024, 2:00 a.m. to Friday, March 8, 2024, 1:00 p.m.
The train drivers' strike in Germany also has an impact on ÖBB train traffic. The German corner is unlikely to be affected.

Journeys via the Deutsche Eck and to Munich
Inner Austrian train traffic between Salzburg and Tyrol via the Deutsche Eck is unlikely to be affected by the strike restrictions. In addition, the trains RJX 260 and RJX 62 from Vienna to Munich and RJX 65 and RJX 261 from Munich to Vienna are expected to run as scheduled.

RJX 261 Munich Hbf (from 17 :30) - Vienna main station (at 9:32 p.m./from 9:40 p.m.) - Budapest-Keleti (at 12:19 a.m.)
Restrictions and changes in day and night traffic
Trains over the Brenner route can sometimes be routed to Munich. Travelers between Salzburg and Munich as well as Kufstein and Munich can switch to the Bavarian regional transport (BRB), which runs every hour; ÖBB tickets are recognized. The other long-distance trains towards Germany usually end at the border stations. The ICE connections from/to Passau and Nuremberg are canceled.
Some night trains will be affected by the strike measures from the night of March 6th to 7th. There will be failures and partial failures.
The strike in freight transport will begin as early as March 6th at 6:00 p.m. and will lead to restrictions. The ÖBB Rail Cargo Group team is currently coordinating with partners and customers to minimize the impact on transport. Freight traffic is expected to resume at 5:00 a.m. on March 8th.
Current information
The ÖBB asks all affected travelers to postpone non-essential trips to Germany or to choose alternative travel options. Current information is available at oebb.at or by telephone at 05 17 17-0.
The timetable changes will be gradually updated in the ÖBB timetable information SCOTTY. The train connection for tickets to/from Germany has been lifted. Tickets purchased up to and including March 4, 2024 can be canceled and refunded if the trip does not start. If the trip is started at an earlier or later date, the tickets can be used until March 15, 2024.
Nightjet tickets to/from Germany that were purchased up to and including March 4, 2024 can also be used in daytime traffic. The tickets are also valid until March 15, 2024.

After the official strike period ends, there will still be train cancellations and delays until scheduled traffic is restored. If there is no collective agreement in Germany, according to the GDL there will be further short-term and unannounced strike measures.
