The award-winning products are Energy Storage System for Railway with SCiB in the discipline of user interface (UI) design; and H2Rex, a pure hydrogen fuel cell system; HAORI, an inverter air conditioner, in the discipline of product design.

iF DESIGN AWARD, one of the most prestigious international competitions for good design, is sponsored by iF International Forum Design GmbH , the world’s oldest independent design organization based in Hanover, Germany.

Outline of Toshiba’s winning products
1. Energy Storage System for Railway with SCiB - joint application with Toshiba Infrastructure Systems & Solutions Corporation
The Energy Storage System (ESS) with SCiB, Toshiba’s rechargeable battery, charges and discharges regenerative power to provide safe and stable power supply to trains, especially during emergency power failures. A simple monitoring system is essential to ensure continuous operation of the ESS.

This graphic user interface (GUI) with strong visual design offers just that by offering a clear, intuitive display of ESS operation. System status such as output power, battery status, fault information, and measured data are displayed in real-time and can be quickly grasped by the users.

2. H2Rex - joint application with Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation
H2Rex is a pure hydrogen fuel cell cogeneration system that generates electricity and heat with hydrogen produced from renewable energy. Unlike fossil fuel power plants, H2Rex is quiet and does not emit CO2, making it safe to install where people live and work, such as near houses, buildings, and factories.

H2Rex changes people's conventional image of infrastructure, thanks to its simple, unobtrusive design that blends in with the surroundings. H2Rex not only expands the utilization of hydrogen energy but also symbolizes next-generation infrastructure for a sustainable society.

3. HAORI - joint application with Toshiba Carrier Corporation
Redefining the air conditioner as an item that makes the room more attractive, we have designed HAORI to harmonize with the wall. It is aesthetically designed for a sublime fusion with the room interior. Its fabric cover is formed in the shape of a grill with a smooth gradient to make it look like a continuation of a wall. Users can easily replace a detachable cover according to the room interior and their preference.

Owing to a uniquely shaped flap, the air conditioner appearance does not change markedly even when it is on. The chassis blends naturally with the room as it is slim because of a new heat exchanger and chassis structure.
