GB Railfreight (GBRf) has taken delivery of the first of the fifteen Class 18 hybrid+ CBD90 shunting locomotives to be manufactured by Clayton Equipment.

Two well established UK manufacturing businesses are giving the nation’s rail sector a much-needed boost by collaborating with a third-party distributor on a project for a new fleet of rail haulage locomotives.

Clayton Equipment, the only British independent locomotive manufacturer in the UK capable of designing and manufacturing locomotives up to 150 tonnes, has agreed an additional contract to supply an innovative CB40 locomotive to Sellafield Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.

Clayton Equipment has supplied a fleet of five battery locomotives for an all-electric mine in Canada.

Next up… the build of the First Clayton Equipment emission free Hybrid+ CBD90 shunting locomotive for Beacon Rail Leasing will commence soon.

The Clayton Equipment CBD90 is a battery – Diesel hybrid, Bo-Bo, 90 tonne locomotive for shunting applications.

Clayton Equipment, the only British independent locomotive manufacturer in the UK capable of designing and manufacturing locomotives up to 150 tonnes, is to supply a further two Hybrid + Diesel CBD90 locomotives to Tata Steel, Port Talbot which are currently in the final stages of build.

As well as the CBD90, KR models have announced their intention to produce the Clayton DHP1.
