Thales GTS has welcomed the announcement by the Department for Transport (DfT) that its innovative Intruder Detection System for rail, developed in collaboration with Focus Sensors, has been awarded funding.
Thales has teamed up with GeoSAT, Setec Ferroviaire, CLEARSY and the Nouvelle-Aquitaine regional council to form Nouvelle Signalisation Ferroviaire Frugale (NS2F), a consortium that aims to develop an innovative digital rail signalling and network operation system that will set new standards for simplicity and energy efficiency.
The collaboration will boost local competencies within SMRT Trains’ Integrated Electronic Workshop to diagnose and repair these critical components, enhancing the long-term reliability and sustainability of the signalling systems running on the nation’s legacy MRT lines.
Faced with the rapid urbanisation of our societies and the new challenges posed by climate change and soft mobility, rail transport is undergoing an unprecedented revival through new high-speed links and the renaissance of night trains.
As part of its commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, SMRT Trains has partnered Thales on a key initiative called “The Next-Generation Green CBTC Project”, which aims to reduce electricity consumption and further improve traction energy efficiency of the North-South and East-West lines (NSEWL), which are the oldest in Singapore’s rail network.
Autonomous technology gives trains new super powers. Imagine if your train could see and think for itself. It sounds like science fiction, but thanks to Thales, trains with autonomous capabilities are already becoming a reality. RailBot, the Thales autonomous solution, enables a train to interpret its surroundings, make decisions and drive itself according to its mission, without any need for human intervention.
From intercity and cross border travel to urban mobility, digitalisation is shaping the future of sustainable rail. Thales wants it safe, affordable, accessible, efficient, and resilient, while minimizing carbon and other emissions and environmental impact.
A newly awarded contract places Thales at the centre of digital trust for Network Rail Telecom (NRT), providing an enhanced cyber security posture across the entire Network Rail Enterprise.
Reaffirming its strength as a trusted global transportation supplier, Thales was recently awarded a long-term services support (LTSS) contract by SMRT Trains, with support from the Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA), for the continued reliability and availability of its SelTracTM Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system on the North-South and East-West lines.
